San Francisco Bay Area Post Card Club
June 24, 2017 @ 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM UTC-7
Saturday, June 24, 2017 I will be presenting my book, Dearest Minnie, as sailor’s story at the San Francisco Post Card Club using power-point showing the postcards relating to the coaling stop in the bay area.
Jun 24, Saturday, CLUB MEETING – San Francisco Bay Area Post Card Club from 11 AM to 3 PM at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco in Building C, Room C-210. (Browse and trade postcards from 11 AM to 1 PM; Meeting begins at 1 PM; Program starts after the meeting.)
Our June speaker will be Leslie Compton on the Great White Fleet. Leslie will present Teddy Roosevelt’s GWF through her latest book, Dearest Minnie, A Sailor’s Story, focusing on the visit to the San Francisco Bay Area.
A sailor aboard the USS Virginia narrates the cruise through the postcards he sent to his sweetheart and Leslie’s five years of research. The full-colored postcards of this historical event will be presented in a PowerPoint presentation.
There is an hourly fee for parking within the gates of Fort Mason Center, but upper Fort Mason (enter at Franklin and Bay Streets) and parking spaces along the Marina Green are free. Parking can be difficult, so come early and enjoy the Book Bay (the Friends of the San Francisco Library store), Goody Cafe, Maritime Library, Greens Restaurant or amble through the community garden, because there’s plenty to see and do. We often gather before 11 AM at the picnic tables or in the exhibit area in Bldg. B.
